Member Spotlight: Connie Shi
Connie Shi is a member of the Harvard Medical School Class of 2018 and Right Care Boston. She became involved with the RCA when she read about the issues in Lown Weekly. “I thought, ‘Who are these people who are talking about all these things I want to talk about?'” So when she saw an announcement for a Right Care Boston meeting, she decided to go. She liked that it was a humble gathering where everyone got a voice, no matter their position in health care.
“As health professionals we have a responsibility to use our voices to help do good beyond just the clinic, beyond the walls of the hospital”
Connie was very involved in the listening tour process, which involved organizing trips to community centers to get a broad sampling of the public’s opinions on healthcare. She is looking forward to engaging more students in the RCA, not just in the health professions but also in other areas, like policy, law, and business. “Students should strive to understand as much as they can about the health care system as it affects people from all walks of life,” says Connie. “There are so many communities, even within our own city, that we don’t have the opportunity to interact with, just through medical education.
